How to Save Space When Decorating a Baby Nursery

Here are ways to save space when decorating a nursery.

Instructions

    1

Evaluate your space. Take into consideration what items you will absolutely have to have including a crib and a chair for yourself. All of the other items are negotiable.

    2

Forget about buying a changing table. Most mothers don't use it. Instead, purchase a play pen with a changing table attached--typically referred to as a pack n play or "play yard." The play pen will work fine and its multi-functional. The changing table is detachable. You can also use this item as a bassinet and it has wheels.

    3

Buy a transitional changing table. If you absolutely insist on buying a changing table, purchase a changing table that also functions as a dresser. This item is a great space saver and often has a mirror attached.

    4

Choose a crib with storage space under it, which is great for storing crib linens and manuals. These cribs come in all price ranges.

    5

Purchase an upright dresser because it will offer more drawer space. Upright dressers have the most longevity because they will typically be used beyond the toddler years. It also gives you a place to put things that are out of reach of your toddler.

    6

Utilize small baskets and storage containers to store small or loose items. These containers are great for saving space. Put them under the crib, in your babys closet or even free standing. Buy clear containers for more versatility and longevity when redecorating.

    7

Use an upright bookshelf for loose items such as toys, pictures and books. If the shelves are open enough, or adjustable, you can place the small baskets, or storage containers, on the shelves.

    8

Organize your babys small items--shoes, toiletries and any other accessories--using behind the door organizers. The organizers have multiple pockets.
