
Established methods are employed in setting a formal dinner table with wine glasses, with a predetermined order and position for the different elements -- plates, utensils and glasses. Place the service plate (the main plate) in front of the guest's chair. Put the butter plate slightly above and to the left of the service plate.
2Place the knives and spoon to the right of the plate, in the following order, with the first utensil the closest to the plate: dinner knife, fish knife and spoon. The cutting edge of the knife should face in toward the plate. Place the butter knife diagonally on the butter knife, with the handle toward the service plate.
3Place the forks to the left of the plate, in the following order, with the first utensil closest to the plate: salad fork, dinner fork, fish fork.
4Place the glasses above the plate, to the right side, arranged from left to right in this order: water goblet, champagne flute, red wine glass, white wine glass, sherry glass. Position the water goblet in line with the dinner knife.
5Fold the napkin and place it in the center of the service plate. Proceed to set all the places in the same manner.
