How to Remove Heat Stains From Wood Furniture

How to Remove Heat Stains From Wood Furniture

Wood tables and other furniture take a beating over time, and heat stains are a common problem. They leave a fog in the finish and white marks that no amount of polishing will remove. However, there is a very simple process that will take the damage away quickly in most cases. This process uses commonplace items you probably already have at home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Clean the table to remove any debris.

    2

Lay a clean cotton cloth down over the stained area. Make sure it covers the stain completely.

    3

Plug in an iron and put it on high heat. Do not turn on the steam yet.

    4

Iron the cloth to warm up the wood. Check under the cloth. This alone sometimes will remove the heat stain.

    5

Add water to the iron and reapply the iron to the cloth, using steam.

    6

Reapply the iron to the cloth if the stain remains. As soon as the stain disappears, remove the iron and dry the wood surface with a clean, dry cloth. If the stain doesn't come up within a few minutes of using the steam, stop using the iron.

    7

Rub over the stained area with a fine sandpaper. Sand until the stain is gone.

    8

Stain the surface to match the rest of the furniture piece, using a paintbrush. You might need to apply several coats, allowing each to dry before applying the next.

    9

Apply a wax or finish similar to what is on the rest of the piece.
