Entryway Color Ideas

Entryway Color Ideas

The color of your entryway gives guests a clue about your personality and decorating style. A bold, bright color evokes a different impression than a soft, romantic hue. Choose your color wisely to reflect the image you prefer, but coordinate it to the flooring and wood trim for a cohesive appearance. Does this Spark an idea?

Neutral

Neutral colors include white, black, gray, tan and brown. Although these colors come in various shades, the colors tend to go with everything. A black and white entryway is a classic design and gives a formal appearance while a tan or brown entryway brings out the wood tones in furniture, staircases and wood picture frames. A gray may be metallic and brings shimmer into the room, or muted, which plays off a bold accent color.

Bold

A bold color brings a dramatic effect to an entryway. As entryways are smaller in size, a bold color gives you big impact yet is relatively easy to repaint when desired. A hot pink or vivid red color pops a room while a royal blue or purple brings depth and drama to the walls. A lime green against a lemon yellow brings an airy feel to a dark entryway, or go for a punch of Caribbean turquoise blue mixed with a coral to bring in a tropical feel.

Muted

Palladian blue brings in the soft blue of a summer sky while an argent blue color continues the soft grayish blue from the outdoor stones into the home. A pale green brings a serene atmosphere to your foyer and visions of a luscious greenhouse. The soft glow of a yellowish white resembles a soft candlelight, good for all skin colors and complexions, while an earthy sage green or taupe gives a moody feel to the room.

Combinations

Pair a deep color with a neutral one, such as eggplant purple with a light gray to visually enlarge a room. Pair fuchsia or lipstick red against a black and white background or a deep chocolate one for bright spots of color. Combine fire engine red with taupe and a soft yellow-white to accent the woodwork in the entryway. Muted tones of teal blue and celadon mixed with a warm white or a rich, earthy gray stirs visions of earth and water that always work well together when combined in a foyer.
