How to Steam Potatoes

Steam cooking is a quick and easy way for the home cook to prepare potatoes. Steam cooking, unlike boiling, allows cooked potatoes to hold onto their many nutrients without getting soggy. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

    1

Clean the potatoes with cool water. Carefully, remove the potato skins with a potato peeler, if desired.

    2

Cut the potatoes into equally sized pieces with a knife for even cooking.

    3

Add -inch of water to the bottom of your steam pot.

    4

Place the steam pot on the stove and turn the stove burner to high heat.

    5

Put the steaming insert in the steam pot, and then place the potatoes in the steaming insert. Put the lid on steam pot.

    6

Bring the water in the steam pot to boiling and allow the potatoes to cook for approximately 20 minutes.

    7

Remove the lid from the steam pot and check for doneness. Gently prick a potato with a fork to see if the potatoes are fork-tender. When they're done, remove them from the steam pot.

    8

Serve the steam cooked potatoes with butter, salt and pepper if desired, or use the potatoes in your favorite recipe.
