How to Change Baby Diapers Including Taking Their Clothes Off

How to Change Baby Diapers Including Taking Their Clothes Off

The art of diaper-changing may seem scary or overwhelming to new parents. In due time and with a lot of practice, you'll be changing your baby's diaper correctly in no time. The general process is basically the same, whether you choose to use disposable or cloth diapers on your little baby. Just remember to have fun. Diaper-changing provides an excuse to really enjoy that intimate one-on-one time together.

Instructions

    1

Gather all your diapering supplies. This includes your wipes, a changing pad, diaper rash cream and diapers. Set up these items at your changing station, so they're within arms reach. Wash your hands.

    2

Place the changing pad on the changing table and lay the baby flat on her back. If you're changing him or her on a changing table with safety straps, use them. These straps, strap across the chest area and prevents him or her from rolling off the changing table. If you're not using a changing table, place him or her on a safe, secure surface.

    3

Remove the baby's pants and place them to the side. Open up the diaper by unfastening the adhesive strips. Grab both of the baby's legs with one hand to slightly lift him or her while you fold the diaper back on itself with the other hand.

    4

Take a few wipes and clean the baby's private area, thigh creases and buttocks. Little girls should be wiped from the front to back to prevent spreading bacteria. If you're wiping a little boy, keep his penis covered with a diaper cloth to prevent exposure to air while you're wiping his buttocks. Exposure to air often causes boys to urinate.

    5

Throw the used wipes in the trash. Remove the used diaper by sliding it from under the baby and throwing it in the trash.

    6

Lift the baby's legs in the air and slide a fresh diaper under his or her bottom with the adhesive straps at the back. Apply diaper cream to the areas that show redness or irritation.

    7

Pull the front part of the diaper up in between his or her legs, so it is touching his waist. Fasten the diaper in place with the adhesive tabs. Put the baby's clothes back on and wash your hands.
