How to Stage a Foyer

How to Stage a Foyer

Presentation is important when selling a home. This is why many home sellers stage a home. Staging a home helps the buyer to picture themselves in the home, which encourages them to buy sooner. Just as writers like to start a story with a bang to hook a reader, home owners should make a foyer look nice to impress a home buyer. A foyer is the first part of a home interior that a buyer will see. If your home has good curb appeal, a nice looking foyer will reinforce the positive feeling that the buyer has when they approach the home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Remove all furniture from your foyer in preparation to clean it.

    2

Vacuum a foyer if it is carpeted. Sweep and mop the foyer if it is a hardwood surface. Wax a foyer if the floors may be waxed. Dust any surfaces with a dust cloth. A clean foyer will give home owners a sense of well-being. If you have a chandelier or hanging light fixture, remove all dust from the fixture. If your fixture is mounted to the ceiling, remove the cover and clean it. Be sure to remove any bugs from the cover before replacing it.

    3

Measure the size of your foyer with a measuring tape. The size of a foyer will indicate the way in which it should be decorated.

    4

Hang a mirror or artwork on the wall at eye level. A mirror will make a foyer seem larger. When potential buyers see themselves in the mirror, it can have the same effect as seeing another couple in a framed artwork. The buyer will picture themselves in the home.

    5

Place a rug over the foyer instead of a welcome mat. A rug is larger and more aesthetically pleasing. If your foyer is narrow, place a runner in the hallway. Place a single piece of furniture such as a hallway table or a bench in the hallway. Do not clutter the foyer with too many items such as family pictures, coat racks and umbrella stands. These items can make a room seem smaller. A simple grouping involving two lamps on either side of the mirror or artwork will suffice for decor.
