Round tables have been a been popular ever since King Arthur commissioned his legendary table. They ease conversation. They give every poker player an equal view and fit perfectly under a round patio umbrella. Unfortunately, round table do not hold tablecloths very well. Outside tablecloths are blown by the wind, taking silverware, plates and food along for the ride. Indoors, cloths are easily tugged out of place. Holding the tablecloth tight to the table is the difference between a stable, crisp table setting, and a droopy, blowing mess.
Instructions
- 1
Measure the table's diameter. Add an extra foot to the measurement. This is width of the fabric you will need. For example, if you have a 4-foot table, you will need fabric that is 5 feet, or 60 inches, wide.
2Fold the fabric in half lengthwise. Fold it again so that the fabric is in quarters. Place the end of the tape measure on the folded corner. Stretch the tape measure half the width of the final tablecloth. For the 4-foot table, the cloth will be 5 feet wide, and half that width is 2 1/2 feet. Rotate the tape measure, keeping the end on the corner. Mark the measurement every few inches to form a quarter of a circle.
3Cut along the line drawn with the tape measure. Open the fabric to find a 5-foot diameter circle.
4Sew the bias tape around the edge of the circle, right sides together. Turn the bias tape to the wrong side of the fabric and stitch the opposite edge to the wrong side of the fabric, leaving a 2-inch gap.
5Pin the safety pin to one end of the elastic. Using the pin as a guide, thread the elastic through the casing. When the end of the elastic is close to the opening in the casing, pin the other end to the fabric. Stitch the ends of the elastic together. Stretch the tablecloth over the table.
