If you don't plan to use a tent very often, it might be better to rent than purchase; storage or cleaning is not an issue in tent rentals, and your local tent rental professionals have the training to safely set up your tent. They also know the specific fire and building codes in your area. Renting also allows you to choose the style, color or size you desire for the occasion.
What Type of Tent?
Traditional pole-type tents are the most common choice. They set up easily and cover the most ground for the least amount of money. However, pole tents must be supported by a center pole and have plenty of clearance.
Frame-style tents have an outer supporting frame instead of the center pole and require less room. However, they are much smaller and more difficult to set up.
Many other styles of tents are available; to choose the tent you need, consider your requirements and desires and consult your local tent rental location for expert advice.
How Much Space is Needed?
Tent Experts offers the rule of thumb, "If a tent is being used for dining purposes and round tables are being used allow 10 to 12 square feet per person." Square banquet-style tables require about 8 to 10 feet per person. For rows of chairs, allow about 6 square feet per person. For cocktail service, 5 or 6 square foot per person is adequate. All Seasons Tent Rental has a chart of space needed and includes dancing space required. Your local tent rental company can also suggest sizes tailored to your individual needs.
Deposits
Most tent rental places do require a cash deposit. This amount is nonrefundable and secures your tent until needed. It is applied to the rental cost unless the tent is returned damaged.
Location Considerations
As Tents by Design states, things to consider about the location include "overhead obstacles, such as tree limbs or low wires and underground utilities or sprinkler systems. Tents cannot be installed under a high-voltage line." Other considerations include the ground surface and levelness. While tents can be installed on either concrete, dirt or unlevel surfaces, they require special consideration. Also, depending on the weather or conditions of the land involved, floors or walls may be desired.
Local Tent Regulations
The tent specialist you constul can usually tell you any concerns with local regulations. Some locales will require no-smoking signs or fire safety equipment. In some areas, a building permit may be required. Such regulations must be followed but shouldn't pose many problems.
Decorations and Accessories
In general, feel free to decorate your rented tent as you desire. Hangings, signs and other elements are permitted as long as they do not damage the tent. Puncture marks or ink stains are not allowed. Also, fireworks, grills and other accessories are not allowed underneath the tent.
Time Required
To make sure to have plenty of time for your celebration, start deciding on your tent rental a couple weeks or more in advance. Consult your local rental place, have an on-site evaluation if needed, and put your deposit down.
On the day of the celebration, the tent should be erected several hours beforehand. That gives plenty of time to ensure everything runs smoothly and everything necessary is done. Then, enjoy your celebration!
