An organza table overlay is a piece of organza fabric laid over a tablecloth to make the table more decorative. Rented spaces for wedding receptions often offer tablecloths only in white, which is clean and crisp but too generic. You can make an organza overlay, matching the colors of the wedding, for a look that is unique to your celebration.
Instructions
- 1
Measure the tablecloths that the overlays will cover.
2Subtract one foot from each side of each tablecloth measurement. Multiply by the number of tablecloths, and convert to yards. This will give you the amount of organza you need. The overlay should drape over the sides of the table, but leave at least a foot of the tablecloth exposed on each side.
3Mark the reverse side of the organza with the fabric pencil, showing where you will cut the fabric.
4Cut out a square of organza for each tablecloth.
5Steam out any wrinkles in the organza, using the handheld steamer.
6Turn down 1/8 to 1/4 inch of the organza on each edge of the fabric's reverse side. Secure with pins.
7Sew the pinned edges with the sewing machine, removing the pins as you go, creating a finished hem.
