A wedding reception is usually all about the food, the toasts and the dancing. However, tablecloths also play an important role at a reception. With so many tables, buying tablecloths can be expensive, unfortunately. However, if you or someone you know has some basic sewing skills, you can make your own round tablecloths for your wedding reception at a fraction of the cost. Plus, if you make your own tablecloths, you're free to add your own personal touches to them.
Instructions
- 1
Decide what color you want the tablecloths to be. If you're having a traditional wedding, white and off-white are good choices. To give the tablecloths more pizazz, use gold or silver fabric. You can also match the tablecloths to your wedding colors.
2Measure the diameter of the table for which you are making the tablecloth. Measure the height of the table from the top to the floor and multiply that number by two. Add these two measurements together.
3Cut out a square piece of fabric that is as wide and as long as the measurement number. Round off the edges of this square of fabric, making it a circle.
4Hem about one-half of an inch all around the edge of the circle of fabric, tucking in the raw edges as you go. If you find it difficult to fold the fabric over while maintaining the circular form, you may cut small notches (about one-fourth of an inch) as needed in the edge of the fabric before you fold over the hem. This step will help the fabric curve as you fold it over.
5Iron the tablecloth before placing it on the table.
