Tent Crafts for Kids

Tent Crafts for Kids

Children of all ages are fascinated by tents. Both boys and girls alike love to play in tents and they also love to make miniature tents for their toys. A few pieces of furniture and a good imagination is about all it takes to come up with some great ideas for making a tent.

Blanket Tent

A couple of chairs and a couple of blankets or sheets are all the supplies that you will need for this tent craft. Place two chairs back to back and a few feet apart. Drape a blanket or sheet over the backs of the chairs and you have a tent. Add a few more chairs and more blankets and sheets and you can have a more elaborate tent. You can even create several rooms in your tent. Create original artwork for the walls by drawing on paper and using tape to secure the drawings to the blankets or sheets.

Cardboard Box Tent

Large cardboard boxes make great indoor tents. Refrigerator boxes may be a little difficult to transport, but once you have one at home, it makes a great tent and hideout for the little ones. They will spend hours playing in their new "home." Let them take their crayons or water paints and decorate their house any way they like. Many times household pets will enjoy the new toy, too.

Clothesline Tent

If you have an outdoor clothes line, you already have the framework of a great tent. Draping blankets and sheets over the lines is all it takes. Rugs also make great walls and a roof for your outdoor tent. You may want to use a few clothes pins to hold material in place, but many times this won't be necessary as the weight of the blankets is usually sufficient. Jazz up the tent by using old sheets that can be colored on and decorated.

Toy Tent

Sometimes, children like to make tents on a smaller scale. After all, their dolls may want to go camping, too. Smaller cardboard boxes can be used for a toy tent. Just decorate the outside with markers, paint or crayons. Children's furniture can be draped to create a tent for the children and their toys to have a quick race track pit stop or a tea party.
