Things to Put on a Baby's Shelves

Things to Put on a Baby's Shelves

Some way or another, a baby's room seems to fill up with more furniture than any other room in the house. Between the crib, changing table, dresser, dirty clothes hamper, diaper disposal and rocking chair, not much room is left for shelves. If this is the case, consider wall shelves that do not take up space from the room. But do not forgo shelves altogether, because you will soon realize just how important they are for storing baby accessories.

Lamps

A shelf is an ideal spot for holding a lamp in your baby's nursery. Floor lamps can get in the way, and you do not want to risk tripping on the cord. The top of your shelving unit can keep cords hidden and provide soft lighting for the room.

Storybooks

A nursery is not complete without storybooks. You can store your books inside the cubbies of your shelving unit, or display the books on top. The shelves will be your one-stop shop for all the books you read to your baby, so make sure to keep the stack of them neat.

Stuffed Animals

If your baby has a collection of stuffed animals, arrange them on the shelf so that your son or daughter can see them from the crib. Stuffed animals can also go on wall shelves that are hung up high. Do the same for dolls or clown collections.

Clothes and Booties

Store baby clothes on her shelves, especially if you run out of closet or dresser space. Some wall shelves come with hooks that can be used for hanging a baby coat or sweater. If your shelf does not have any hooks, just keep a neat pile of clothes folded. Booties can be stored on baby shelves, too.

Fast-Grab Supplies

The supplies that you may need to grab fast, such as pacifiers and baby wipes, can find a home on a baby's shelves. Shelves offer a convenient storage solution because you do not have to dig through dresser drawers to find what you need. This comes in especially handy if you are in the middle of a changing. With this storage idea, the supplies are readily available to grab and go.

Decorative Items

Many parents decorate baby shelves with things like toy blocks, a large wooden structure of the baby's name, picture frames, giant toy butterflies and decorative pillows.
